Locale App
The Locale App project was developed for KSU students to connect at international school facilities. The app needed to include region-based searchability, student-to-student messaging, and social media integration. This assignment was my first introduction to the UXD program, where we were tasked with designing a social media platform for KSU students in just one week.
Step 1 - Research
We began by researching similar apps to understand best practices for regional search functionality and social connectivity. Platforms like Yelp and OpenTable provided inspiration for location-based searches, while apps like Instagram and Facebook helped us identify key social media features and user interaction elements to incorporate.
Step 2 - Personas
Identifying the target user was crucial for the design process. We developed personas and created an Empathy Map to better understand potential users' needs, preferences, and challenges. This helped shape the app’s functionality and overall experience. Key questions we explored included:
Who are the users of this app?
What are their primary needs and priorities?
What features would make this app useful for students in another country?
Step 3 - First Iteration
In this stage, I sketched initial design concepts, focusing on core functionalities. I outlined the app’s key components and features, simulating a client meeting to discuss design decisions and requirements. This early prototype helped guide the final design.
Step 4 - Final Design & Functionality
For the final stage, I delivered a functional prototype that showcased the app’s design and features. This version served as the foundation for future iterations, as the class will continue refining and expanding on these initial concepts throughout the course.
